PLAN AND CONSTRUCTION 1969 - 1974
• Franca Helg
• Franco Albini

The plan consist of a cross with four long arms that intersect like a turbine around a central core. Each arm, with independent vertical and horizontal distribution, is developed according to a 1.20 meter module, which gives great flexibility to the layout of internal spaces.

The shortest arm, to the east, houses the directional offices and faces the self-service canteen unit.

A particularly interesting octagonal-planned iron staircase, an example of a series of polygonal staircases designed by Albini, is located in the central hall, at the intersection of the four arms, near the main entrance.

The building structure is made of steel with prefabricated fretted sheet floors and has five over-ground floors for a total height of 17 meters (because of its vicinity to the Linate airport).

The characteristic horizontal development is underlined on both fronts by ribbon windows with aluminum frames and dark red, shaped belt courses.

The façade consists of a particular system of fiberglass reinforced polyester resin fairings that protect the air-conditioning system lines. The vertical panels covering the blind heads of the units, on the other hand, incorporate the vertical conveyers of the system.
